Easy Do It Yourself Centerpieces

Photo courtesy of Lovely Wedding Day

Making your own centerpieces can be as easy as floating flowers and candles in water. Secure your favorite flowers, roses, orchids, tulips. You don't have to use real flowers, silk will do, which makes your timing much easier.

You can make these ahead of time with less worry of dying flowers. Anchor the flowers by either gluing to the bottom of your vase or by using floral stones. Add a floating candle to the top of your design and voila! The perfect centerpiece is ready to be put on the table, just waiting for the reception to begin and candles to be lit.

Be sure your vase is tempered glass so that it won't shatter when the candle has been lit for awhile. I once arrived at a wedding just in time to see all the centerpieces shatter one after the other. That's a mess you just don't need on  your wedding day. These easy centerpieces can be clustered in a group or used as a single piece. Add some votive candles on a mirror to add some depth.

Buy inexpensive wooden candlesticks (you can pick some up in the Dollar Store or your local craft store), paint them gold, then cover with gold glitter. Easy and gives you a wow factor.

If you just want a gilded look, head to Lowe's and buy paint called "Midas Touch" that will give anything you paint with it a gilded look.

You can also upgrade some old vases by using some Midas Touch gold paint and painting a design on the clear glass--upgrade those vases with just a few touches of your brush.

Have boring table numbers? Add the glam with Midas Touch. They will go from ho hum to wow in just a few minutes.

Edge your chalkboard with Midas Touch to add some glam to your chalkboard. The uses are endless!  Add you ideas for using Midas Touch paint for crafting for weddings.

Candles and Pearls

Candles and pearls make the perfect centerpiece for a wedding or wedding shower especially if you are planning a winter wonderland theme wedding. Small candles, faux pearls in a variety of colors to add depth and put them all on top of, yes, you guessed it, SUGAR! I have to admit I'd never have thought to have subbed sugar for the bottom of a candle arrangement but using it in this one makes it look so wintry and gives your centerpiece a cool look.

One warning though, be sure to get glass that is meant for candles. The heat of a candle burning all through your reception might be too much for glass that is not designed to withstand the heat. So be sure not to just buy dollar store glass that isn't meant for burning candles in (or at least check one of you centerpieces out before you decide if they will work for your reception or not.)

You have to admit, this is an EEEBCDI (Easy Enough Even Bill Can Do It). Anyone who reads my DIY blog regularly knows I test how easy a DIY project is by having my husband (who is very un-crafty) try them out. The man can fix almost anything but DIY projects are just not his thing if they have anything to do with crafts! So if my man can make them yours can too, which means you get some extra help putting them all together. Add some togetherness to the wedding DIY projects.

Be sure to visit the web site linked under the photo for more great winter ideas for weddings or wedding showers.

DIY Floating Canopy For Your Wedding

Photo and directions from Home Interior Ideas

Looking for a unique way to mark your wedding location in your local park or back yard? Why not try this canopy that floats courtesy of multiple balloons. How do you do it? The balloons are attached to the grounds using fishing line, invisible but strong. How cool is this? I think this is one of my favorite do it yourself outdoor wedding ideas.

Arrange your ceremony under one end, your reception at the other, or use one half the canopy for your ceremony and chairs for your guests to relax on, and the other half for the reception. No matter how you decide to arrange the details the overall look is striking.

Salted Caramel Sauce To Die For!

Always with Butter, a blog to die for (at least if you aren't on Weight Watchers!) has this lovely recipe for this soft and luscious salted caramel sauce that is perfect for a wedding favor in the fall. It's soft and gooey and oh so so good. Even if you aren't having a wedding or shower that you need a favor for, you REALLY want to make this sauce. (My husband couldn't keep away from it while I was making it!) It smells and tastes great and looks really good too--what more could you want? Well calorie or fat free would be good but the taste would be ruined so... just enjoy and work it off the next day. Your guests will love it and so will you!

To find the recipe head over to Always With Butter. You'll enjoy this recipe and want to try more of their other recipes as well. Enjoy your salty caramel sauce--and share (I know, it will be hard..but...)

Peacock Wreaths For Your Wedding

I admit, I tried this first without finding a tutorial--big mistake! Because what I didn't realize was you needed a base of green chandelle or turkey feather boas, once I figured that out the rest was so easy you may not even need the link for the tutorial that I posted under the photo of my wreath. Granted, they hung their wreath using a purple satin ribbon, but since I was making mine to add to my 'collection' of peacock feather decorations for weddings, I left the ribbon off.

Two critical tips for my success: First: be sure to let the paint dry before you try to attach anything, rushing it will not work. Second be sure to use spray glue, it's so much easier with feathers than hot glue or other craft glues.

This is time consuming the first time but if you are making several, by the time you get to the last one you'll be cranking them out pretty quickly. I tossed the first two I tried (one, I didn't let the paint dry, the second, I tried to used hot glue and made a huge mess!) But after that it was pretty easy.

Be sure to work where you have plenty of ventilation (I ended up using my front yard.) My neighbors were intrigued. But now my grass has some paint on it (one good reason to work outside, it's not on my floors. Just do it on a calm day and stay away from your cars.) Good luck, have fun and enjoy your wedding day.

Rose Petals and Tabletops - Easy DIY Project

Scattering rose petals on a tabletop adds 'something extra' to your tablescape, but here's a great way to do use rose petals that will pull everyone's attention to your decor. Grab your hot glue gun and your silk rose petals and glue them to the table runner or organza overlay! Simple. (Though not necessarily fast).  Be sure to leave ample time for them to dry and don't use too much glue or the material will be glued to whatever is underneath it. You can also make bows for the back of the chairs for the bride and groom that are covered with rose petals. Just don't overdo it. If you think doing this on every table is too much, consider using it for your cake table.

Every wedding is memorable for different reasons. Some for the entertainment, some for the great venue, some for the inventive food--but every event should have some memorable very special decorations. If you use this rose petal runner you don't need expensive centerpieces, a simple silver vase with a small floral arrangement or some silver candlesticks will finish off the look.

Don't forget to use rental products when you can instead of purchasing everything. The runner or overlays you will need to purchase because you'll be adding the rose petals to them--which means you get to keep them! (Not sure what you'll do with them later, although one would be great for Valentine's Day celebrations.)

Tubs of Flowers

Photo courtesy of Samplers and Santas

Looking for easy flowers for an outdoor wedding? Marly, the wizard (hmm well whatever a female wizard is called) behind Samplers and Santas has solved the problem for brides planning an outdoor wedding who want and easy and inexpensive way to decorate with flowers.

The real genius behind this project? You can use it for years after your wedding, just change out the flowers. I do love a project that has longevity!

Visit Samplers and Santas for other great ideas as well as for the tutorial on how to pull of this project, (I assure you is one of my "EEEBCDI" ("Enough Even Bill Can Do It") project.)

If you can stick the shepherd's crook in the ground, shop for the galvanized tubs (or get the ones out of your garage that you've been tripping over all winter) and choose some flowers you're in business! Oh and then there's the 'secret rock' tip that you can't find out about without going to Marly's web site. (this is a critical tip so don't miss it!)

These tubs are great for marking the ceremony area or to use as a backdrop. I can't wait to head out to get some galvanized tubs so I can make some for my yard (even though we're not having a wedding here!)

DIY Centerpieces - Tape and Tea-lights

Looking for an easy DIY centerpiece or favor? Try these tea-lights. How easy is this? This is easy enough your flower girl could help with it! Which makes it a great project if you want to include everyone in your wedding planning and crafting. So simple!

How do  you make it? Just wrap some tea-lights with decorative tapes! These tapes come in a variety of colors and designs so don't be put off if your wedding needs bright colors or the black and silver just doesn't work for you. Have fun!

Use them as favors or just put one at each place setting. Or group them in the center of your table. So many choices for this easy craft!

I'd categorize this EEEBCDI (Easy enough even Bill could do it) but I didn't even make him try it--it's easier than easy! (Followers of my blog know that Bill is my husband who is very non-crafty. I use him to test out each DIY project. Any project that is marked EEEBCDI is truly something simple to make that he has created with no problems!)
