DIY Organic Table Numbers and Placecards

How simple and inexpensive can this DIY project be? Austin Wedding Blog uses an assortment of colors of cherries, go red, or golden, make small 'flags' to put around the stems and use your computer to type names on them in a cursive font before you cut them out and glue them around the stems of the cherries. Do the same to put the 'table number' on each cherry.  Put the number of cherries on the saucer of the people sitting at the table plus one.

Choose a pretty saucer for a romantic garden party look. Either pick up saucers from friends and family or hit Goodwill or the your local garage sales. Inexpensive but pretty! (Not to mention edible!)

Be sure to take some time to browse through this blog, it's full of great ideas that aren't too hard to execute.

Place Cards, The Natural Way

Using pears as a theme for your wedding?  Consider using a lush, juicy pear as a favor and leaning your place cards against it.  Some mail order catalogs like Harry and David offer huge, gorgeous and ripe Royal Riviera® Pears ready to eat that can be shipped to your home, this way you can avoid worrying about finding ripe pears.  A little more expensive but worth not having to worry about finding a hundred or more pears ripe and ready to eat at your local grocery store.  And the quality of the fruit is excellent.  You'll cross your fingers and hope someone forgets theirs--so you can take them home with you!

Another option to use to hold your place cards is pomegranates (photo and tutorial by DecorItYourself.)   The only trick with these is getting one with a flat enough bottom.  Shop carefully or you'll have 'rolling fruit' every time someone knocks into a table! But they sure offer a pretty but natural option for place card holders.  Consider pairing with Pomegranate Bellini (recipe from Nest, where style starts at home) and you'll have a great natural theme going.

Pomegranate Bellini

Recipe:
-Cut 1 organic pomegranate into fourths and began separating the seeds from the peel. -Place seeds in a bowl with a small spoon for serving.
-Add a spoonful (or more) of your seeds to each glass of champagne.

Be careful to clean up any juice promptly, the juice from pomegranates will stain your cutting board or countertop if not cleaned up immediately.

Even more natural? Country Living suggests you choose a branch with some colorful leaves or berries attached to put next to your place cards.  Set both on top of rustic looking plates for a farmhouse look.

DIY Combination Wedding Favors and Place Cards

Are you a chocolate-loving bride? Looking for some inexpensive DIY favors that also act as place cards? This project does both. Smarty Had A Party posted this incredible idea for the DIY bride who wants her DIY projects to be EASY and tasteful.  Some DIY projects look, well, embarrassing!  No bride wants to waste her time or money on a project like that.  This awesome project combines the best type of wedding favors (chocolate, of course) with a simple placecard.  Make a simple circle design on your computer and cut it out using a large circle punch (check craft store sales or EBay for good deals, don't forget to look for coupons) to punch out circles (about 15/page (the circles should be about 1 1/2 – 2 inches in diameter).  Using some double stick tape, put the circle on the toothpick (buying high quality toothpicks will make your job much easier and the cost is minimal!)

Shop for the chocolates on sale after holidays or check your local warehouse store or commissary.  Not the best thing to buy online since chocolate may melt during shipping especially during the summer.  Also chocolates are not the best favor for a summer wedding, again, melting becomes a problem.  Estimates for the total costs: as low as 50 cents/favor.  And your place cards are done as well.  The DIY bride strikes again! (links: Budget Dream Weddings, Ten Thousand Only blog, Knot bride pbell and photographer Teness Herman.
