I love this DIY spring centerpiece! Do it yourself flowers can be tricky but not with this easy to make centerpiece. Don't you love the huge bouquet of bright yellow daffodils juxtaposed against the wooden vase? Perfect for a spring wedding.

 

Just drill a hole big enough for a glass to hold the water and the stems of the flowers you want to use as a centerpiece and voila! Add the flowers and it's done. Just put it on the tabletops and your work is done! This is a great DIY project to get your fiance involved in (we all know how much guys love power tools!) Not to say you can't do it all on your own but hey, it's more fun together, right? So give it a try--Martha makes it all look so easy!

Hooking Mason Jars

A mason jar is one of the hottest DIY items for weddings in the last year. Add some ribbon and a shepherd's crook and you have a perfect aisle marker for an outdoor wedding.  The photo above is courtesy of The Knot. Fill you mason jar with flowers to coordinate with your wedding colors and voila! An easy DIY project.  Just don't leave these for the bride to do the day of the wedding, rope in someone not in the wedding party, maybe an aunt, cousin or friend who won't be quite as busy as the bride, her mom or sisters.

Visit Craftstylish for the exact directions on how to make this great DIY floral fascinator.  Perfect for the bride or her bridesmaids, or even a smaller one for a flower girl.  I love the idea of fascinators, but I wish they had a different name...every time I hear the term 'fascinator' I expect it to be put together with buttons or snaps! Not sure what the origin of the name is, but I think you'll agree making one for yourself is a great DIY project.  You could even add some tulle for veiling if you just can't quite give up having a veil.  (If you aren't a great DIY'er try hitting Etsy, where you'll find crafters who ARE expert DIY'ers.)

Daisies and Gingham

Do it with daisies! This simple DIY project (yes it REALLY is simple) needs votive candles, daisies, ribbon, and glasses.  Cut a length of ribbon to fit around the metal rim of the votive candle.  Cut off close to the entire stem of the daisy, open petals and put in glass with water.  Top each daisy with a lit votive candle.  You can have one of these for each guest or run several down the center of your tables.  Definitely pretty in pink!

While this would be expensive to make with fresh flowers the directions on the Ruffled blog are for artificial lilies (easier to keep looking fresh for those of us without floral refrigerators too!)

DIY Wedding Flowers, Rules for the Road -- DIY and Stay Calm

Do It Yourself -- The good thing about doing it yourself is there are very few rules! But here are a few suggestions that may help you on your road to becoming a CALM DIY bride.


1.  Don't let DIY intimidate you.  Let your creative side out to play.  Remember, this is YOUR day, not a wedding planners, not your mother's or his mother's.  So be creative and be YOU!
2.  Buy your fresh flowers from a local grocery store.  Talk to the manager or manager of their floral departments and let them know what flowers you need.  Be sure they order enough for you.  The prices will be better than getting them through your florist.  Try Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Costco etc.
3.  Consider using creative vessels.  Go wth mason jars, flea market finds or old vases from a yard sale.
4.  Cut stems at and angle.
5.  Flowers should not be more than twice the height of your vase.  Don't let the blooms overwhelm the vase.
6.  Consider using just one flower, or just one color flower with some greenery.  It's less expensive and easier to arrange.
7.  Don't be afraid to ask for help.  A DIY wedding doesn't mean a do it BY YOURSELF wedding.  Enlist the help of parents, bridesmaids, sisters etc. 
8.  Remember, enjoy your DIY projects, especially flowers.  If they are about to overwhelm you, it's time to get a professional to help you out.

Pink and White Easy DIY Flowers
