It only takes two roses and a book covered with a glass dome! Simple! You could even use silk roses so you don't have to worry about spillage. So if you are a Disney lover planning a wedding based on Belle and her Prince, this is the centerpiece for you!

DIY Peony Centerpieces

If you love peonies this DIY centerpiece will capture your heart. It's perfect for weddings or wedding showers, or just a pretty luncheon or dinner party. 

 

To make these you will need taper candlesticks, some floral foam (to keep the flowers hydrated), and a floral knife and floral clippers (oh and some water to soak the foam) and your peonies (you can use any flower that opens to approximately the same size as a peony.)

This is an easy to make centerpiece that you can pull together ahead of time (cut the foam, buy the flowers) and just quickly add the water and flowers on the day of your wedding or even the day before. Spell Out Your Love With DIY Love Blocks

If you are planning a romantic centerpiece, Six Sisters Stuff has a great tutorial on how to make these 'Love Blocks.' Depending on how you size them you can use them at each place setting or as part of a centerpiece. Combine with some votives in similar colors and you're ready to rock!

 

I love the variety of black and white backgrounds with the bright red accents, use them for a Valentine's Day wedding or any wedding that black, red and white accents will coordinate with. No doing those colors? Just change out the colors to some that work with  your wedding theme colors.

DIY Fabric Rosettes

Fabric rosettes? I'd never made them before, but there is a FIRST time for everything. My first try didn't come out too well, but the second worked like a charm! (And I mean rosettes not the entire bouquet!) So I just made an extra to complete the bouquet. Easy and nice to be able to make all the bouquets ahead of time, no 'day of insanity!'  There are instructions all over the 'net for different versions of fabric rosettes, just browse and choose your favorites, then get your bridesmaids or your sisters and mom to help make the bouquets and decorations.

DIY Wedding Centerpieces

I was browsing the net (and was on one of my favorite sites, Cupcakes and Cashmere) when I came across a great DIY centerpiece tutorial.  Really, doing your own flowers, or having a family member do them isn't THAT hard, it's the time component and keeping flowers cool and transporting them that are the issues. 

If you're having a small wedding, DIY flowers are definitely doable.  The secret? Scotch Tape and ti leaves.  The ti leaves take a Dollar Store vase from simple to chic.  And the 1 1/2 inch wide tape lets you divide your flowers throughout the vase by making a tape grid to keep them in place. Genius! (at least for those of us who aren't in the florist business). 

For greater detail head over to Cupcakes and Cashmere's web site and find on the blow by blow directions.  But basically put the larger flowers in first and work your way down in size.  The site also tells you exactly what you need for one centerpiece.  Just multiply by the number of tables at your wedding.  You don't have to use the same flowers shown, practice with a variety of blooms and colors until you're happy they work with your wedding theme and colors.  All photos courtesy of Cupcakes and Cashmere.

Mason Jar Simple Centerpiece-Very DIY!

Want an easy DIY centerpiece for your wedding? Try these simple mason jars, tied with a ribbon in your wedding colors or to coordinate with them, and add Craspedia Billy Ball Flowers (see Fifty Flowers where you can get 100 stems for $108.99) and use some lightly colored water.  Easy, simple, and inexpensive.  Look for your mason jars at garage sales or buy them by the case at BuyCheaper, either way they aren't very expensive.  When choosing your jars consider the size of your tables, larger tables, use larger jars.  Or consider using multiple jars on each table but smaller jars.  Your call. 

I can visualize this with three jars on a table using bright grosgrain ribbon in hot colors or paler colors to suit your color scheme.  This is definitely an EASY DIY project, one that is doable on the day of your wedding or even the day before without going insane.  (Photo courtesy of Becky Young Photography, Denver, CO)

Decorative Washi Tape and Candles

This idea is courtesy of the creative group over at Martha Stewart Weddings! What is Washi Tape? It's pretty and decorative masking tape from Japan (or if you're looking locally check out Pretty Tape at Etsy.com).  It comes in a variety of colors and designs some of which are sure to suit your wedding decor.  Vary the heights and diameter of the glass containers and add votives and voila! This is Wedding Queen easy! The hardest part is putting the tape on straight and/or choosing the tape to use--indecisive is my middle name! If your venue doesn't allow you to light candles pick up some battery operated ones.  Be sure to use Bed, Bath and Beyond coupons or some for other stores to keep you costs down.  And test out the glass you are using to be sure it won't break when you light the candles (and leave them lit for five or six hours).  Some glass just won't take the heat.  Good luck!  And check out Martha's web site for lots of other great ideas for your wedding-there isn't anything they don't cover there!

Unusual Interactive Centerpieces

I have to admit, I totally fell in love with this idea.  By now you've recognized the pieces to a game of Tetris! Offbeat Bride's guest poster Terra tells you how to make these beauties for your own wedding.  As a fan of Tetris I can see how these would appeal to the gamers out there.  Use your wedding colors or go metallic like Terra did.  You could even put them on a mirror base to give it some more glitz.  Smaller versions could be used as place cards by adding each guest's name along the cubes.  So if you've got game, head over to Offbeat Bride and see more photos and directions on how to make these Tetris-like centerpieces.

DIY Lace Decoupage Vases

Remaking boring old vases into delicate looking lace decoupaged centerpieces is an easy DIY wedding project.  (My VERY FAVORITE KIND!) It's an easy way for the bride to make her own floral centerpieces without breaking the bank.  

Simple directions for how to make these lacy centerpieces is on Urban Comfort's web site.  Some Modge Podge and some lace or lacy materal and an old vase are all you neeed to create this feminine cemtepieces perfect for a wedding or wedding shower. 

I can see using this on napkin rings as well to pull together your table design. Why pay to rent a lacy tablecloth when you can have the look of lace by simply adding it to your centerpieces or napkin rings.

Rustic Look Lighting

Create this DIY candlelit nest of dodder vines by putting a vase within a vase.  Surround the smaller vase with dodder vine and add some feathers or tiny eggs (please NOT real eggs, your candle will cook them!) Take care that none of the vine hangs over the center vase where you will place your candle.  Add a real candle to the center vase (or consider using a battery operated vase if your venue won't allow real candles.)  Always test your centerpieces to be sure the glass is tempered and won't break as it heats up. 

You can buy dodder vine at your florist or from the craft store.  It is green when fresh so allow time to dry it out if you aren't buying it already aged.  It looks beautifully rustic as it ages, and with the accent of the feathers and eggs will make a unique DIY centerpiece from Donna Hay. 

DIY Rose Frosted Mini-Cupcake Centerpieces

Frosted roses as cupcake centerpieces? Who would have thought? But if you are looking for an inexpensive but unique wedding centerpiece visit The Frugal Girls web site and see the step by step directions on making these great mini rose frosted cupcakes centerpieces. A nice change from a tower of cupcakes as a centerpiece on a table.

Find some interesting containers either at garage sales or Goodwill and fill them with roses for everyone at the table. Be sure you have a container large enough for the number of people at the table.

If you are looking for some inexpensive containers similar to the ones shown, I was in Home Goods on April 1, 2011 and they had some there...easy shopping and a great way to save money!

The DIY Centerpieces That You Can't Break

Tired of centerpieces or gifts that you have to worry about breaking?  Try using rocks.  Yes rocks.  Sets of rocks are available that you can write on.  You can put the date one, the word 'Love' or other appropriate 'wedding type word'.  You can stack them or use stones are part of a Zen design with some pillar candles.

Like a Colonial Look to Your Centerpieces?

Kimberly at It's So Pretty It's Cute  has a tutorial for a Williamsburg style centerpiece that even a novice DIY'er can do.  Kimberly calls it 'the traditional Williamsburg Apple Cone.' 

Apples are attached to a nail-studded wooden cone, so they last a long time.  This makes them perfect to make ahead for your wedding, no fading or drooping flowers.  The scent of the apples alone will enhance your wedding.

This centerpiece requires apples, a pineapple, and greenery (boxwood and magnolia leaves), as well as a wooden cone and nails.  Be sure to visit Kimberly at her blog and see what other incredible ideas she has for you. She is one creative lady!

Cupcake Topiary Tree

Considering using cupcakes in lieu of cake at your wedding? Why not have them do double duty as decorations as well? This Cupcake Topiary Tree was featured in Food Network Magazine in their May 2010 issue.

To make your Cupcake Topiary Tree you'll need:

1 Terracotta pot

Floral Foam

12 inch floral foam ball

12 inch dowel

Brown Paint

Pink Paint

Mini cupcake liners 24

Straight Pins

Toothpicks

Directions:

Fill the terracotta pot with floral foam, and insert a 12 inch dowel or thick stick in foam. If you're using a dowel you'll need to paint it brown before placing it. Paint a 12 inch floral foam ball pink and let dry. This can take an hour, be sure it's all the way dry. Push the ball down onto the dowel that's already been anchored into the pot. Using straight pins and cupcake papers to plot your cupcake design, then place real cupcakes in each spot removing the pins and papers used for plotting as you go. Attach cupcakes using 3 toothpicks poked halfway into the bottom of each cupcake and press them into the ball.

How-to

Step 1 Put succulents in the small vessel filled with water.
Step 2 Place small vessel inside the large square vase.
Step 3 Fill the vase with your natural mix.
Step 4 Finish off with the ribbon.
